STEM is the most efficient and proactive concept of learning in today’s world. With advances in technology and medicine, the nation needs to remain focused on science, technology, engineering, and math, rather than adding an unnecessary “A”, for art. Although, the musician Yo-Yo Ma believes that art adds, “collaboration, flexible thinking, and disciplined imagination” to students, he leaves out the fact that students may learn these skills while in STEM classrooms as well. For example, in science classes, collaboration is necessary to work on labs together and flexible thinking is necessary in math when trying to figure out the best way to solve a problem. The students are learning the skills that Yo-Yo Ma claims that art adds to their education while being in classrooms that will guide the students down a path to becoming a good working candidate for the job market today. Art may help emphasize these skills for students, but in the end, it is completely unnecessary to be one of the main focuses in school. The education system should definitely remain focused on STEM.

Hey great post! I think your argument works really well. I particularly liked the mention that we’re already being exposed to art in the stem field. You also introduce the topic in the first few sentences very clearly. Overall, I think it flows nicely and you have a really good grasp on how to introduce your nay sayer.

I think that you did a really good job with your argument. I like the example that you pulled from the Yo-Yo Ma paper it really helped to strengthen your point. You do a nice job of explaining how STEM is used in schools and how that there is no need for art to be thrown in there. I liked all the examples that you provided about the what STEM is and how it helps the students.

I think V does a good job of introducing a counterargument. She does a good job of using Yo Yo Ma as a naysayer. I think her argument stays solid and true. She talks about focusing on academic subjects in a classroom and not incorporating art. I like that she also added in an outside example to strengthen her claim.

Your use of evidence really backed up your argument and defiantly made it stronger. It flows together nicely and I really liked how you added an example to create a visual version of your claim.
