For my science based article I chose, “Laughter Brings Us Closer” by Jeff Wise. This article is from Discovery Magazine. My essay is about the beauty I find in happiness and laughter so this article will give me a lot of good information. The author Jeff Wise from Discovery is interviewing a woman named Sophie Scott on her research about how laughter plays a big role in the social interactions of humans and other animals. I would like to use some of her ideas to help strengthen my ideas about laughter.
For my two podcasts I chose to use Jamie Lee and Taylor Mara’s and Jonathan Laurie’s interviews about beauty.
I chose to use Jamie and Taylor’s podcasts because of the fun point of view the little girl brought to beauty. In my essay, I would like to talk a lot about how happiness is beautiful and Taylor’s little sister talked a lot about how beauty gives you a happy, warm and fuzzy feeling. This point of view would be a great addition to my essay.
I chose Jon’s podcast because another part of the essay prompt is to talk about how my community views beauty. I chose my community to be UNE and I think a lot of people on campus think of beauty as the connect it has to nature. In the podcast, Jon’s friend Will talked a lot about nature and the contrast it has to the stress of school. I really think this point will strengthen my essay.
Sounds like you have a great topic, that’s going to be an interesting paper! Connecting beauty and happiness could also lead you to use Taylor, Vitoria, and Meg’s podcast with the english professor. She describes a lot of scenes in nature that she finds beauty in and also relates beauty to gratitude. Good luck! Great start!
